Brown Paper Flooring
I've looked online and seen several sites that discuss DIY paper bag floors, but I'm not sure how realistic it is to use in a kitchen and how durable it would be for most homes. Paper bags or a roll of brown craft paper from the mailing supplies aisle (enough to cover your entire floor, with some overlap)
Gallon of water-based polyurethane (I recommend Minwax Polycrylic or Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane) Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart
Scissors
old work clothes
Strong knees and back! Instructions for a paper bag floor
The first step
First, install the "Closed Room" sign! Second step
Now clean the floor thoroughly...it's a great idea here, and you can find it in the painting section. Only use the scissors to create a straight edge on certain pieces to line up against cabinets, walls, or a change in flooring. Step 4
Pour a small amount of polyurethane onto the floor where you will place your first piece, and smooth it out with a brush, although I preferred to use my hands. Lay the piece of paper down, add some poly to the top of the paper and smooth it out. If you find bubbles forming under the floor of your paper bag, poke the bubble with a pin, add some more poly, and smooth out. Fifth stage
Once you are done covering the entire floor with paper, allow the poly to dry. Tips:
When you notice the floor becoming dull, clean and add a maintenance coat of poly. "Lil Red House" did a paper bag flooring project in their bathroom. "Lil Blue Boo" used his brown paper floor to make his commercial space awesome!
