Crying On The Floor Of My Bathroom
Muna Share More Pop Brilliance With “Crying On The Bathroom Floor” Ahead Of Album Drop
After last year's final contender for Track of the Year and instant anthem "I Know A Place," "Crying On The Bathroom Floor" is both euphoric (in its production) and devastating (in its lyrics). In some ways, it seems to work as a sequel or counterpart to Robyn's melancholic dance standard "Dancing On My Own". "Crying..." tackles the concept of traumatic bonding, a subject the band read, wrote, pondered and talked about while writing the song. This attachment manifests on a physical and biochemical level throughout the cycle of abuse, similar to the ups and downs of a drug addiction. The song's chorus asks the question, "when I cry on the bathroom floor tearing off the dress I was wearing / wondering if I could ever ask for more / if I'll ever ask a lover for more?" "The lyrics here refer to a moment of insight from a particularly dark place," Gavin writes. "We see ourselves in the bathroom mirror, in shambles after another night gone wrong, and recognize that this is not what love looks like."
The track debuted live on MUNA's first flagship show in London at the end of September; it's sad that the disco energy drove the crowd crazy. You can read Gavin's full unedited statement summing up his feelings as he released the new song, the groundbreaking, and the steps to achieving some sense of equality below:
" Hi girls. The chorus of this song contains a question: "When I cry on the bathroom floor / tear off the dress I was wearing, I wonder / if I could ever ask for more / if I'll ever ask for more from a lover ."
The lyrics here refer to a moment of insight from a particularly dark place. We see ourselves in the bathroom mirror, a mess after another night gone wrong, and recognize that this is not what love looks like.
“Crying On The Bathroom Floor” By Will Young
And judging by the first line of "Crying on the Bathroom Floor," the abuser is someone he's even married to. Also judging by this verse, Will has become insensitive to the recipient's actions, even if they are positive. In other words, by any word of mouth, he's been abused for so long that he's pretty much lost interest in the affectionate side of this relationship, as if the recipient's kisses aren't worth anything to him, because it's all hypocritical in his eyes anyway. And it's the "lies", the "disrespect", the "loneliness" and whatever you have that has Young in his feelings. Let's just say that in general, as human beings, negative experiences tend to affect us more than positive ones. Or seen from the perspective of the theory advanced earlier, he is the type of spouse who simply cannot tolerate being cheated on, even if his partner is not necessarily a bad person. This is why he is found "crying on the bathroom floor, ripping off the dress he was wearing", presumably the one he wore when he married the recipient. Or even if it's not a wedding dress he's referring to, it would be a type of outfit symbolic of his devoted love to the recipient. "Crying on the Bathroom Floor" is a Heartbreak songSo, in conclusion, of course it's a song of heartbreak. However, it differs from virtually any other we've come across in that the singer, who is its victim, doesn't openly offer any type of ideological remedy or desire/ultimatum to leave. What's more, more than half of the studio albums he's released so far, apparently including 'Crying on the Bathroom Floor', have topped the UK Albums Chart.

Crying On The Bathroom Floor
If I never want more than one loverCry on the bathroom floor
(Give me some more)
Ripping off the dress I was wearing, I wonder
If I could ever ask for more
(Will you give me more?) If I never want more than one lover
Cry on the bathroom floor
(Give me some more)
Ripping off the dress I was wearing, I wonder
If I could ever ask for more
(Will you give me more?)

Good 4 U Lyrics
(Ah ah ah ah)And good for you, I guess you've been working on yourself
I guess the therapist I found for you, she really helped
Now you can be a better man for your brand new girlfriend
Good good for you
You look happy and healthy don't I
If you ever wanted to ask
Good for you
You're doing well there without me, baby
God, I wish I could do this
I lost my mind, I spent the night
Crying on my bathroom floor
But you're so unaffected, I really don't understand
But I guess it's good for you
Good for you, I guess you get everything you want (Ah)
You bought a new car and your career is really taking off (Ah)
It's like we never arrived baby
What's up with that? Well live it and fuck off
You'll never have to suffer like you know I do
Good good for you
You look happy and healthy, I don't
If you ever wanted to ask
Good for you
You're doing well there without me, baby
God, I wish I could do this
I lost my mind, I spent the night
Crying on my bathroom floor
But you're so unaffected, I really don't understand
But I guess it's good for you
(Ah ah ah ah)
(Ah ah ah ah)
Maybe I'm too emotional
But your apathy is like a salt wound
Maybe I'm too emotional
Or maybe you never cared
Maybe I'm too emotional
Your apathy is like a wound in the salt
Maybe I'm too emotional
Or maybe you never cared
Good good for you
You look happy and healthy, I don't
If you ever wanted to ask
Good for you
You're doing well there without me, baby
Like a fucking sociopath
I lost my mind, I spent the night
Crying on my bathroom floor
But you're so unaffected, I really don't understand
But I guess it's good for you
Well good for you, I guess you moved on very easily
